About Encouraging Words
Encouraging Words is the result of daily ministry life—my meager attempt to share ideas, experiences, and resources that may edify friends and co-laborers. On this blog you will find a variety of articles, biblical principles, and ideas relating to ministry and family life. You will also read of resources, books, and tools that might prove useful in life or ministry. Every now and then you’ll find a topic a bit more random, but hopefully helpful. And on rare occasions you might find something personal—like a post about our family vacation.
I’m the first to admit, I’m no expert. I’m just a guy who loves the Lord and loves learning. And this is where I share what I’m learning. Also, generally this is a place where I try to publish answers to questions that I’m frequently asked or ideas that might be useful.

About the Schmidts
The Lord has given me the privilege to serve as an Associate Pastor at Lancaster Baptist Church in Lancaster, California with Dr. Paul Chappell. My responsibilities include Student and Singles ministry, Striving Together Publications, Media ministry, and weekly service oversight. God has blessed me with an wonderful wife, Dana, and three children—Lance, 19, Larry, 16, and Haylee, 11. We really enjoy serving the Lord, spending time together, and taking family vacations!
We serve the Lord with a great team of people, and it’s an honor to serve with them. In our twenty-first year of ministry and marriage, it’s been a dream come true to see our graduates grow up at LBC and stay faithful to Christ as they enter their adult lives.

Recently the Lord has seen fit to allow me to enter into battle against cancer—Hodgkins Lymphoma, which in most cases is curable. As you might imagine, I’m learning a lot on that journey and trying to glorify God and encourage others through it.
